Ground-mounted photovoltaic systems enable the sustainable use of grassland for renewable electricity generation. With careful planning, energy generation and existing land uses can be combined effectively, for example as part of agri-photovoltaics or extensive grazing.
The Agri-PV system Dunkelstein I combines renewable electricity generation with agricultural use on the same land. While the photovoltaic system, with a capacity of 2.36 MWp, generates around 2.5 GWh of solar power each year, the land is simultaneously used for sheep farming. This creates sustainable dual use that meaningfully brings energy generation and agriculture together.
